Karen's notes: Hey, Americans, keep in mind that in UK-speak, "pants" = underwear (the long ones are "trousers"). That said, I can't wait to see Adam in some frilly pants on Friday.

Oh, also, anyone care to hazard a guess as to what thunder pants are?

  2. Here in NZ, Thunderpants are a brand of female undies that don't ride up: http://www.thunderpants.co.nz/go/home/index.cfm
I'm intrigued as to how STM would know this...but then, who knows how STM knows half the things he does??

  3. Hmmm... the only thing that springs to mind is ...*ppprruuuupppph* Pe-ewh. Have you been feeding STM a lot of beans?

  4. It's probably a coincidence, but Thursday was named after Thor, god of thunder.

  5. It's not much of a stretch from thunderpants to underpants. Maybe that's where STM was going?

  6. Thunderpants are Granny undies, or the ones you wear when you've got nothing else to wear.

  7. Thunderpants are what you get when you fart in your pants.

  8. Definitely big pants

There used to be a kids TV sketch show called Round the Bend when I was a kid involving a puppet crocodile in a sewer. Sort of a "Spitting Image" for kids (for anyone who doesn't know what that is, youtube it). I seem to remember that in that they did a spoof version of the cartoon Thundercats, which was called Thunderpants!

  12. @Anthony - Wow, that is an obscure reference.

  13. Thunderpants was a movie from ages ago where a really smart boy with no sense of smell(portrayed by Rupert Grint) invented special pants for a boy who farted a lot so that other people wouldn't have to smell it :P

  14. This is definitely another front and back shirt opportunity.

    FRONT:
"Of course I'm wearing my thunder pants. It's Thursday.

    BACK:
Friday is frilly pants day. Don't forget!"

  15. I have a theory. "Thunder" sounds a lot like "under" (as in under pants) so maybe thunder isn't in reference to the physical phenomena that occurs after lightning, but another "th" word coupled with the word "under". What that other word may be is anyone's guess.

Of course, most likely I'm completely wrong, but that was what I first thought of when I contemplated what thunder pants could be.

  16. If pants are underwear, then what's your term for actual pants?

  18. my first thought was the old cartoon Thundercats from back in the 80s.
then I got to thinking about it, then laughing to hard to think clearly cause I was picturing someone on a toilet with an explosive case of diarreaha

  22. It amazes me how alliterative STM can be in his sleep. That kind of thing takes thought!

  23. Why is this dated the 18th? Have you discovered time travel, cos the rest of us think it's the 17th...

  24. With just a quick glance, I didn't see anyone else mention, but as a cop, I know that there is a product called Thunderwear, which is a type of deep-concealment gun holster. http://www.thunderwear.com/

  25. I, like another anon who posted, thought of Thursday named for Thor, god of Thunder. Therefor Thurs./Thunderpants. (OF COURSE you'd wear thunderpants/underpants on Thor's day. Not that I'm some history nerd (OMG maybe I am!) but I think I learned the Thor/Thursday thing in primary school, grade 6 maybe. I immediately thought that was what STM was referring to, and I was very impressed!! That would make him a smartypants, I guess!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ah! Now we know what STM actually is - he revealed it! He's icky when he pops - he's a ZIT! He must be one in a hard to reach place. Karen, is there a big ugly pimple between Adam's shoulder blades?

  29. Thunderpants (one word) is the name of a movie featuring Rupert Grint as an inventor of a pair of pants that contain the...well... certain bodily functions that later fuel rockets! But, these pants were not underwear, they were his outer pants. So, pants are underwear...I learn something new everyday from STM!

  32. Not having thought of the previous posts in the particular frameworks presented, I would think ThunderPants were either generic fartsacks (for men) OR something to contain Thunder Thighs (for women)
Some of the other suggestions are bonnie and beyond.
You could merch front and back ThunderPants for men and women (go ahead and wear them backwards!) using the bean/beer and voluptuous female baby feeding thighs as opposite sides. If that doesn't give range, I dunno...

  33. I was thinking something along the lines of a dark blue Speedo with a yellow lightning bolt down the front. Like superheroes wear!

  34. Thunder pants - they bring the thunder from down under!

  35. Let's see - THUrsday - THUnder pants; FRIday - FRIlly pants; SATurday - SATeen pants; SUNday -SUNflower pants; MONday - MONiker pants; TUEsday - TUE____ pants (any help here?) and WEDnesday - WEDding pants! LOL
Reminds me of the "day-of-the-week" panties I had as a girl :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hm - I really can't come up with anything that actually starts with "TUE" for Tuesday. However I thought either "Tu-tupants" or "tulepants."

    ReplyDelete
  37. This is what came into my head: Monday, you can wear manly pants (standard cotton briefs or boxers); Tuesday is the day for Tutu-pants, which must be like the bottom of a leotard with attached tutu...; Wednesday you must wear wedding pants, which are either frilly white lacy things, or a man-thong that looks like a tuxedo, woo!; The thunder thursday pants must be a full-coverage brief-type pants, for both those thunderous thighs and any thundery wind-breaking, and they may or may not have lightning bolts on them; Friday's frilly pants are pretty straightforward; Saturday's satin pants too (as a girl I have satin briefs/bikinis, a guy might have satin boxers); and the only thing that works for me on Sunday is Silk... lots of luxurious possibilities there.

  41. And we mustn't forget the 'fast, thick pants' from Coleridge's "Kubla Khan"..... is there a day for those? 7@=Q

    ReplyDelete
  42. In the US, Thunderwear is a type of underwear with a pocket to carry a concealed pistol (which is legal over here in most states, assuming you get a license - imagine that!)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think he was being mythological - Thursday is named after Thor - the Norse god of thunder and Friday is named after Freya - the goddess of love beauty and destiny, and therefore obviously a day for frilly pants

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sorry I should read through the other comments more carefully, before repeating what someone else has already said :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ha! My first thought was the "Thunderpants" spoof on "Round The Bend", too! It had brave Y-Fronto and his band of underwear-themed heroes battling the evil Bumm-Ra (who travelled around in a flying pair of trousers). It was mostly an excuse for lots of bottom-related puns, and was therefore hilarious to a ten-year-old like me.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thursday comes from the word torsdag, which means thor's day, indeed a good day for thunder! Friday is not Freya's day, but Frey's day, same type of deity, but the male version.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think the 'thunderpants' quote needs to go on merch. :o)

  48. STM may well be harking back to the thundercats a popular cartoon in the 80's. as a kid i used to make myself chuckle by changing the words to the song to thunderpants and singing it at the top of my lungs.......maybe it was just me!!!
