Karen's notes: For those who have always wondered what the hell a kumquat is, it is a tiny citrus fruit, about the size of those really little tomatoes. Here are some kumquats:

  1. I've know what a kumquat is for quite a while, but I'm still mystified by how you're supposed to eat them. They seem too small and thin-skinned to peel. Do you just put them in your mouth whole and eat the skin too?

  2. You just pop them in your mouth and eat them whole. The skin is not bitter like on full sized oranges, they are sweet and tangy and really really nice.

  6. I wonder if STM's mention of kumquats is related to the fact that Flamboyant Gelatinous Kumquat commented and posted a picture?

(Hmm, that's got me thinking about whether kumquats are gelatinous or not...)

  9. Strangely enough, I've known what kumquats are my entire life, since we had a kumquat tree in our backyard. Gran used to make kumquat marmalade for us - yum!

  12. The cool thing about kumquats is that the flesh itself is pretty sour, and the peel is the sweet part, so by eating them together, you get a super delicious sweet-sour tangy taste. There's sometimes a hint of bitterness, depending on the ripeness of the fruit. But I have been in love with kumquats ever since I tasted my first one in culinary school. :-D

  13. I found out that i happen to live with a sleep talker my brother last night was going on and on about being beaten by our stepfather with an apple XD

  14. It does sound like a dirty word, but the picture makes them seem like cute little oranges or something. :) I just do not like sour things, so even if the peel is sweet, I am scared that I would try one and it would be more sour than sweet and I would have to spit it out. :(

  15. This guy is saying this in his sleep? Seriously? Hmm. A snore is the most you'll get outta me.

  16. @Michael Reid: why is it so hard to believe? Sleep talking is not that unusual. If you don't believe it, then why are you here being a hater?

  17. Aside from the grins and giggles, I have to say that I've also been getting quite the education! From punctuation, spelling, new words, etc. Becoming a one-stop blog here! ;o)
Lol, I had to go and check the spelling of punctuation....sometimes there are words that just don't look right. With me, it even happens with the little words. Lord save me from old age memory loss. Just leave me the ability to laugh at anything and everything!

  19. @LA/wts: now that you mention it, a lot of fruits and vegetables have really odd-sounding names. I've always found "persimmons" particularly amusing.

  20. Thanks for the pic Karen; I knew it was a fruit, but didn't have a clue what it looked like!

    Good stuff as usual!
