"Lockshen for the masses. It's a noodle revolution!"
"Mmmm, plug me in. Amplify our love. Fill my ears with 'I love youuuuuu'."
__________
Karen's notes: Today, lots of you non-Jews out there (and probably a number of Jews as well) are going to get an education! Lockshen is a flat egg noodle used in chicken soup or to make kugel, the noodle casserole that most Jews out there know too well from holiday family dinners. Here's a horrifyingly close-up serving of kugel:
Brings back memories, doesn't it?
A couple of confessions: 1) Kugel is delicious when it is made well, and I love it. I had three pieces last night at my mom's (although that was potato kugel). 2) I had no idea what lockshen was. We just called them "egg noodles." I listened to that audio 20 times, and finally emailed it to Adam totally stumped. He clued me in.
As for that second one, how sweet, in a creepy-way-to-ask-for-sex kind of way. And he didn't even say it in an ironic tone. Sleep Talkin' Man is going soft on us.
Some content on this page is not suitable for young eyes or faint hearts.

Depending on what else is in it, that doesn't look too bad! Thanks for the education, I had NO idea!!!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwwwww! too sweet ;-)
err, it dosen't seem hes going soft. sorry!
ReplyDeletelmao @ Anonymous (13:55) too funny!
ReplyDeleteJust so you know, Lokshen literally means "Noodles" in Yiddish. A somewhat common Israeli proverb is "Don't feed me Lokshim", basically "Stop bullshitting me" :P
ReplyDeleteAnd now you know!
Oh, man. I really want some of my mom's Yom Kippur lokshim kuggel right now. Too bad that a) she only makes it to break the fast and b) it's passover.
ReplyDeleteBut I did get a huge laugh out of that one...keeps getting funnier! I love STM!!
He just misses you! Awww! :)
ReplyDeleteI think STM is lonely and hungry. Poor Adam, his subconscious is telling us he misses you Karen. STM hasn't been nearly so arrogant this week. No "direct line to God" without you there. It's sweet really.
ReplyDeleteDon't ask me why, but Kugel sounds VERY yummy. I have never heard of it and I am not Jewish. I have had Jewish food in the past while growing up and friends invited me over for supper. I'm going recipe hunting now :)
ReplyDeletemy grandma used to make kugel, or as we called it lockshen pudding, served hot with cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon. oh it was the ultimate comfort food during my teenage years.
ReplyDeleteI guess true feelings are revealed in his sleep. He desperately misses you. Chances are good that...uh.. he won't...sleep the first night you get back ;o)
ReplyDeleteMmmmm Noodle Kugel! My grandmother used to make the best. My friends however, were not as pleased as I was with it.
ReplyDeleteToo cute, not so puffed up and arrogant without the love of his life there to back him up, or feed him. Too weak to hurl insults. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnon 13:55 - Ah ha ha ha ha ha...
I have enjoyed other foods as matzo balls and potato soup and crackers in the past that i still find tasty today and do enjoy, thou have not tried kugel-lockshenning it as it be, deliscio to the eyes and tummywise...
ReplyDeleteit does look yummy! and then could have a (toasted coconutop look, thou it's not, dessert too)
SleepyAdam, Eggy dishes to a Beatlesy-beat;
" You say you want a revolution...Well you know
We'd all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution...Well you know
We'd all want to change the world... "
"Lockshen for the masses.
It's a noodle revolution!"
"Mmmm, plug me in.
Amplify the love, egg on your face. Fill my ears, my eyes with 'I love youuuuuu', foodie, you're sooo goody."
dished up! to go...take out, please.
(flat silverware optional, hahaha...close up shop!...O-k, make that plastic...serving...
(Chicken!)...mebad.idea, 4agiggle, i confess, wet noodled again :P
STM gets sweeter when he's missing you I guess!
ReplyDeleteI love a kugel with lots of cinnamon and raisens. It's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHowever, in my upbringing threats of the lockshen strap were used to stop misbehaving children. The words, "Do you want me to get out the lockshen strap?" were accompanied by unbuckling of grandpa's leather belt! Since all the children ran screaming from the threat, no one ever found out what would happen if the lockshen strap did indeed come out. Which grandpa found very funny....
Karen and Adam, you might want to check out Sunday's Boston Globe online, in the travel section they have a nice piece about the Elephant Nature Park you went to. Love this site by the way!
ReplyDeleteBoston Massachusetts by the way!
ReplyDeleteNoodle revolution cries out to be merchandised.
ReplyDelete@daydreamersdaughter, your grandpa had an interesting sense of humor.
my mum makes the best Lockshen kuggel...
ReplyDeletethanks for your blog

I had about 10 pieces of apple raisin kuggel last night. Yay Jewish holidays~

ReplyDeletecriticalcrass - THANK YOU. adam
ReplyDeleteWE LOVE THE SLEEPING MAN AND HIS WIFE...WHOOOO
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the lockshen part, since most people just call them 'egg noodles,' but otherwise that's another great apron slogan.
ReplyDeleteHAHA please put up the audio for the second one!
ReplyDeleteThis is quite possibly the greatest blog ever and I'm going to force everyone I know to read it.
ReplyDeleteThe other night I read about "Beaky twats" and cried with laughter.
Yes! Noodle Revolution merchandise! Maybe the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster might make Adam their prophet? His Noodlyness is clearly speaking through him. xoxo
ReplyDeleteMmmm - I love noodle dishes and that looks delicious!!
ReplyDeleteSTM's not only warm-n-fuzzy for his True Love, but benevolent to the public, too, with his "lockchen for the masses". Will be fun to see what happens over the next week or so.
The Noodle Revolution will not be televised........
ReplyDelete........ but it will go all over the web, however. 7@=Q
Yeah, I've had kugel before: it's not bad.....
I love noodle kugel, I barely ever get to have it, even though I'm Jewish. I never heard the word "lokshen" before, though.
ReplyDeleteYick. my grandma makes kugel all the time. i hate the stuff.
ReplyDeleteLOVE kugel! I may have to make some now!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow that was quite an interesting piece info (Thank you Karen :) :) ) I would never have a clue what a lockshen or a kugel was.
ReplyDelete@21:25 you are my hero lol
ReplyDeleteT wrote: "Too cute, not so puffed up and arrogant without the love of his life there to back him up, or feed him."
ReplyDeleteAdam must have laughed when he read that, as he does almost all the cooking on our house (and wonderfully well, by the way!).
Oh! Kugel, eh? In South Africa, kugel = Jewish princess. Male kugels are bagels. How odd that they should be named for foodstuffs.
ReplyDeleteAre you implying that music brings you love? The shear animosity of cranking up a sound system are synonymous with the emotions conjured by love. That bass punding against your chest is just as real as the heart beating inside of it. I guess love comes in all shapes and sizes. This interpretation of love associates the emotion with a rush.

ReplyDeleteThe secret of making a good lokshen kugel is, you don't just dampen the noodles with custard--- no, the noodles should be floating around in a vast pool of egg, milk, cottage cheese, sour cream, butter, sugar and raisins-- then it bakes into a rich custard and the noodles just tenderly hold it together.
ReplyDeleteI think insiderart is right :) You, Karen, are the source of his incredible power!
ReplyDeleteJust had to tell you that I made Kugel last night! I had to have it after I saw your post about it here! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not Jewish But I might as well be.. i love kugel. igrew up in a jewish town I also had a jewish client for 4 year's.. All I need to do is learn Hebrew and I can convert.
ReplyDeletegreat site/stumble
I did it! I made it the other night!!! OMG was it tasty! I have a 3 year old and 18 month old and they ate like 3 pieces!!! I am SO keeping the recipe I found!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if I should be happy or sad that before I even read the description, I knew exactly what that was a picture of? And yes, it does certainly bring back memories, though my family was a fan of Raisin kugel in particular. I hated it when I was a kid, and now I can't get enough of it! Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteNoodle kugel is one of my most favorite foods!!! It is part of my family's traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Of course, we also eat blintzes, bagels and lox for Christmas brunch. That's what happens when you have one Jewish and one Christian parent!
ReplyDeletePLUG IN BABAY! just sayin...
ReplyDeleteLuckshen Kugel....giving me flashbacks to my childhood.....warm kugul, lots of raisins....yummm!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt actually look pretty good to me. It looks like a hashbrown casserole we make here in Kentucky. BTW...I luv this site.
