    Mange-tout, as a term taken into English, is also the only French that Del-boy in Only Fools and Horses knew, so he would use it at every opportunity. That might be the source of STM's choice.

    Mange-tout also means "Eat it!", so perhaps STM was going for a retro put-down.

    Mange tout doesn't mean "eat it". It means "Eat it all" - in reference to the fact you can eat both the leaves (snow pea sprouts) and the beans.

    Literally it does mean "eat [it] all", but I was referring to slang usage, similar to "stuff it" or "sit on it."
