"Cuff him! Arrest him! I don't care, that manatee is going down!"

"Green bananas. I've got lots and lots of green bananas. Really I've got lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of fucking bananas. Please somebody get rid of my green bananas!"

Karen's notes:

Manatees - These are the most gentle, docile creatures. There is no way that any manatee has ever willfully broken the law.

Green bananas - Adam said this just last night, but I guess some things just stick with you. As explanation, here is a picture I took on our honeymoon of the elephant food preparation area:

Yes, everything you see in this picture is a green banana, even on those shelves in the background, and we personally lifted every single one of those stalks.

  1. So many of Adam's ramblings seem to start with him saying a few words that could be considered a title for what he's about to say (Green Bananas, Choc Dip, Potato Bags, etc.) Has he usually said anything before the "title" or does he just launch straight into it out of nowhere?

Also, I sometimes sleeptalk, and nearly always remember my dreams. It usually happens when I'm dreaming, but aware that I'm dreaming (so not in a very deep sleep). I can tell when I'm talking in my sleep because the "video" of my dream slows down and gets choppy (I think of it as a reduced frame rate) when I start to talk. I also have the feeling that I'm talking slower than normal. Has Adam ever experienced anything like that?

  2. Awesomeness!
    jackie has a point lol.

Holy green bananas...no wonder he desperately wants to get rid of them!!

  3. Jackie:

Adam tends to groan or say "hmmm" or "yeah" a couple of times before he starts talking. Often, that's why I'm already awake to hear what he says, and it also trips the recorder.

As for your second question, Adam has never remembered a single dream from when he is sleep-talking.

  4. I love this blog! One of my must-read-every-day-or-implodes. Poor manatees. What can he possibly have against manatees? Or as I prefer to call them, dugongs. Dugong just sounds so much better.

I'd love the first one on a mug, please! Arrest that manatee! Mace him and tazer him if you have to. Doggone sea cows are known for resisting arrest. :D

By the way, DON'T put the "choc dip" one from yesterday on a ring tone. ;)

This blog goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond the gratitude I can express in the words "thank you," but I'll still thank the both of you.

  6. funny, i thought i was far more affected by corn whilst on honeymoon. i can't look at the stuff now. cutting a field of the stuff, peeling a ton of them. yuk.

  7. With that many green bananas and not another food item in sight, maybe Adam was channelling the elephants! I'd be sick of green bananas too if that was all I got to stuff in my mouth with people watching.

  8. Perhaps he was referring to a large person as a manatee, I wouldn't put it past whoever he turns into at night to make fun of somebody for their weight

  9. The manatee owes its scientific classification, Sirenia, to The Sirens, in Homer’s Ulysses, who were a bewitching lot of damsels whose wondrous song lures the unwitting sailor to his death on the rocks. One wonders, when looking at a manatee, just what it was that caused scientists to be swayed in that direction.

I think the pictures have a glitch. Before I posted, they were invisible. After I posted, they were visible

  14. Awww, I love manatees! They are just the sweetest animals, and I loved seeing their big, silly faces on the blog. Kudos for dreaming about them!

And if I had to lift that many green bananas--I wouldn't be able to eat anything green, not even Key Lime pie, for a few years afterward.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I laughed so hard at the plaintive way he begged for someone to get rid of the green bananas! Excellent as always! Thanks for the giggles... yet again!

  18. Green bananas, oh so common in Thailand!

We just pulled a whole stalk of them off of our tree, another 2 to come yet! Wish we had something to feed them too!

Glad you guys had fun here in Thailand, I know its fun for me begin from New Zealand and having lived in the US prior to here, and I still have to go to school!

  21. It seems more and more the things he says in his sleep actually DO have things to do with his waking life. Earlier on, the sleep-talk was way more random, yes?

I'm thinking that, over time, mild-mannered Adam will become crazy/hostile/agressive/nonsensical Sleep Talkin' Man when awake. How awesome would that be?

I watch too many movies, I think...

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's true, during honeymoon, more of Adam's sleep-talking comments seemed to relate to real life; and since, his comments STILL seem to relate to the trip. Maybe it's just because our honeymoon experience was so distinctive, whereas our usual life is sort of boring and not really the stuff of dreams (except for our love, of course!)?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have a manatee stuffed animal and I love it a lot...and HE would never do anything to break the law, would you, BJ? *hugs his manatee tightly* You're not arresting MY manatee, Adam Lennard! :P

In all seriousness...look at those manatees! How could STM ever think they would be criminals? :\

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've also noticed that his first sentence is usually short and is like a 'title' for what he's about to say. That's why I love it. It's so random and unexpected. Still love "potato bags"

An arresting case of the banana burglars to chimp in about...

a monkey mission to grab green gold is in the works worth a ton of cake still due to cross
    the border...its top secret bananacakes,

the elephants will trumpet-roar moan and mumble that their stash is heisted from their territory....a stampede is in the works
    to stomp this

not yet, ripe and ready, there's still time to splish splash into this mud-bath for bananarama ding dongs for their king kong...in the long stretch though, they just might

appeal to the sharing factor...it was no more cuff and cheek on this tongue teaser --- bitter to taste and mash-heavy on waste, they may be...

too slippery when wet, manateeing them back; too heavy their load, to carry it back, but, those elephant thongs! did the trick ---boomeranging than pick...in the nick of time, it was...

    mandown on this teedius task,
    ...it's energy for the birds.
quite the bunch to munch on...

--- great pictures Karen...wish we were there!
baby banana catches to the both of you!

  30. Poor sweet manatees need saving from mankind. So Adam, repeat after me: "Save the manatees. Save the manatees."

My father, may he rest in peace, had a rule he lived by that if bananas were 29 cents a pound or less, he had to buy as many bananas as he could carry home from the store. Then, when he got them home, he had to give them away to everyone he could persuade to take them because they'd been such a bargain but he had too many for just him and my mother. It all had something to do with his childhood poverty during the Great Depression. Perhaps Adam is reincarnated from someone who didn't get enough bananas during the Great Depression.

Adam's subconscious seems to trigger some sort of free association in my subconscious....

"Please somebody get rid of my green bananas!"

Not that insulting Adam lacks wit and charm! Okay, insulting Adam is my favorite.

  36. If the manatee didn't do it, it must've been the damn dugongs.

I never, ever, ever, EVER thought I'd be leaving the above sentence as a comment on somebody's blog. For whatever reason. Yet another reason I love coming here. Besides the random somnolent discussions of lawbreaking pinnipeds.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Manatees! They've broken the law by being vegetarian. They lure sailors to eat vegetables. Arrest them! They're done for.

I'm a meat lover. I can't resist to give my first comment here. :-)

"lots and lots of green bananas. Really I've got lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of fucking bananas. Please somebody get rid of my green bananas!" ok...

the manatees is going down, ocean dives with floaing bananas everywhere -how fun- add banana chips and it's dip diving in a sea of yellow and never too much in these waters amongst the
greenery scenery and rubber ducks cuffed and arrested in the sunshine as per your wishes, a done deal.

Time to nosejuggle Adam and his apples, too and we are green with envy

You let your manatee down and then you drown: that's just the way with nature.
