    "cannon fodder" are basically pawns, they stand on the front lines and wait for the cannon ball to come and knock them over while the important troops stand behind and be important.

    Cannon fodder... Northern troops during the War between the States, basically - only reason Grant won. Lee didn't have enough.

    (Couldn't resist...I'm a Civil War buff! ...and a Southerner, obviously.)

    "Cannon fodder" was what my ex called a certain kind of granola bar. If you have more than a bite or two, you get "the runs". Not so funny when you're camping, thankfully we got a spot near the bathrooms.
